Our Preventative Approach

Chiropractic care is very effective in the management of common musculoskeletal ailments, such as back pain, headaches and sporting injuries, but it can be much more than this. It can be about body performance, optimisation, and wellbeing.

What type of chiropractic care you receive depends entirely on your health philosophy.

  1. Those who react to a symptoms or pain (a sickness philosophy), should seek chiropractic care only when they experience pain and discomfort.
  2. Those who are proactive with their health, (have a wellness and preventative philosophy), should seek regular chiropractic care to optimise their health and wellbeing – thus improving body function and reducing vulnerability to injury and degeneration.

We believe that the preventative approach is best however we respect each person’s individual choices.

With this in mind the goals of our practice are;

This approach will optimise the function of your spinal and muscular systems to prevent further injury and to allow the nervous system to function without interference and better regulate the various body systems and general health.

Chiropractic Research and Literature

“..the vertebral column (the spine), is undoubtedly the most neglected vital organ in the human body”

Dishman, R. JMPT 1985; 8 (3)

Vertebral Subluxation Complex Definition. “a vertebral subluxation is considered to exist when vertebral displacement(misalignment), altered (restricited) motion, or both exist between two adjacent vertebra.

Bolton, Philip. JMPT 2000; 23(2).

Osteoarthritis and Degeneration

“…discs and muscles degenerate without symptoms in “apparently” healthy subjects. Decreased water content in disc, muscle atrophy, and muscle fat deposition were seen in asymptomatic subjects. This leads to poor posture and spinal degeneration.”

(Hayashi, Kirkaldy-Willis, 1992. J Spine Disorders)

“evidence shows beyond reasonable doubt that immobilisation (or decreased mobility) is not only a cause of osteoarthritis but that it delays healing”

“..if immobilisation, irrespective of cause, cannot be avoidable, it would be therapeutically logical to take every possible step to limit its extent and duration”

“scar tissue begins to be deposited immediately upon immobilisation and serves to further decrease mobility. Within 2 weeks thickening of bone is detectable and radiographic evidence of joint space narrowing, osteophyte formation, and subchondral sclerosis is apparent.”

“the process is induced by trauma or repeated microtrauma…”
